Chapter Bylaws
Preamble
Whereas the purpose of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority shall be to establish among its members a perpetuals bonds of friendship, to develop strong womanly character, and to impress upon them high standards of conduct.
Article I. Name
Section1. The name of this alumnae chapter shall be Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority.
Article II. Focus
Section 1. The focus of this alumnae chapter of Sigma Sigma Sigma shall be service to the Sorority, service to others, and service to self--within the framework of our National Sisterhood.
Article III. Membership
A. Eligibility and Requirements:
Section 1. Eligibility for membership requires that a woman be an initiated member of Sigma Sigma Sigma Sorority who has either; graduated from college, is no longer in college, is currently attending a college/university that does not have a collegiate chapter of Tri Sigma Sorority, or a woman who is eligible and completes the Alumnae Initiate Program thus becoming an initiated member.
Section 2. Eligibility for the Alumnae Initiate Program requires the potential member has never been initiated into another National Panhellenic Sorority, is a woman of character reflecting the values of the National Organization, and is sponsored by the Alumnae Chapter.
Section 3. To be placed on the roster sent to the National Organization as a member of the Pittsburgh Alumnae Chapter, the member shall be in “good standing” with the Alumnae Chapter (See ARTICLE V, Section 5).

Article IV. Officers and Chairmen
A. Officers :
Section 1. The chapter officers shall be: President, Vice President, Recording/Corresponding Secretary, and Treasurer. They shall be elected for a term of three (3) years.
Section 2. The local Executive Board shall be composed of the elected officers.
Section 3. Chairman shall be: THE TRIANGLE Correspondent, Recruitment Chairman, Foundation/Philanthropy Chairman, Alumnae Panhellenic Representative, Founder’s Day Chairman, and Web Chairman.
Section 4. Other chairmanships may be created as the need arises.
Section 5. It shall be the duty of the President to preside at all meetings and to perform all other duties pertaining to the office. She shall act as Chairman of the Executive Board. She shall appoint all chairmen for which other provisions are not made.
Section 6. The Vice President shall assist the President and in the absence of the President, perform all duties of that office. In the case of a vacancy she shall succeed to the office of President until the next election of officers.
Section 7. The Recording/Corresponding Secretary shall keep a correct record of the proceedings of all meetings of the chapter and Executive Board. She shall keep the roll for the chapter. In the absence of the President and Vice President, she shall call the meeting to order and preside until a chairman pro tem is elected. She shall have charge of all general correspondence as directed by the chapter. She shall issue notices of regular chapter meetings and of Executive Board meetings.
Section 8. The Treasurer shall receive all monies of the chapter, collect all dues and properly forward to National Headquarters. She shall keep an accurate account of all receipts and disbursements. She shall present a detailed report at each meeting. She shall pay out all funds by order of the President. An auditing committee shall be appointed by the President to examine the books and the vouchers of the Treasurer, and to present a written report at the end of the Sorority year.
B. Chairmen of Standing Committees:
Section 1. THE TRIANGLE Correspondent shall send news of the members of the alumnae chapter to the Alumnae Editor on the dates specified by her.
Section 2. The Sigma Sigma Sigma Foundation/Philanthropy Chairman shall have charge of all philanthropy projects for the chapter and shall send a report of them to the Foundation office as required.
Section 3. The Alumnae Panhellenic Representative shall represent the chapter at each function of the Alumnae Panhellenic and shall report on same to the chapter and to the Sigma Sigma Sigma Alumnae Panhellenic Chairman.
Section 4. The Recruitment Chairman shall be responsible for coordinating the ongoing recruitment of area alumnae to become active members of the alumnae chapter.
Section 5. The Web Chairman shall develop and maintain the alumnae chapter’s website.
Section 6. The Founder's Day Chair shall be responsible for making arrangements for the venue, will act hostess, and will recruit volunteers to help in preparation. Circle Degree will be performed each Founder's Day and venue must include a private area for ritual.
Section 7. Other chairmen of Standing Committees shall be appointed by the President as desired by the local chapter.

Section 3. The Alumnae Chapter fiscal year shall be synonymous with the National Organization’s fiscal year of July 1st through June 30th.
Section 4. Alumnae Chapter dues and National dues are payable to the alumnae chapter Treasurer at the first meeting of the fiscal year.

Section 1. A business meeting shall be held at least four (4) times yearly and business meetings can take place in months other than January, April (Founder's Day), July, and August. Business meeting dates to be determined by the Executive Board.
Section 2. The election of officers shall be held in March of the year following each National Convention (triennial).
Section 3. The April meeting shall be to celebrate Founders Day.
Section 4. The installation of officers and presentation of annual reports shall be at the May meeting.
Section 5. The elected officers shall meet in a planning session at least once a year. The meeting will be called by the President on a date/time that all officers can attend.

Article VII. Elections
Section 1. A nominating committee appointed by the President at least one month in advance, shall present the name of a candidate for each elective office at the March meeting. This will be applicable only during periods that the chapter has a minimum of 20 members in good standing.

Article VIII. Fundraising and Philanthropy
Section 1. Vendors for fundraising events must be members in good standing (if a Sister) of the alumnae chapter or submitted by a member in good standing if vendor is not affiliated with the chapter. Items can only be sold or purchased during a chapter meeting if a percentage is donated to the Chapter or Foundation. Fundraiser shall be determined by the Executive Board.
Section 2. Each meeting or sisterhood event will incorporate some type of Philanthropy to be determined by the Executive Board. Any Philanthropic endeavor should reflect our National Philanthropy.

Article IX. Parliamentary Law
Section 1. ROBERT'S RULES OF ORDER, Newly Revised, shall be the authority in all questions of parliamentary law.
Article X. Amendments
Section 1. These bylaws shall be read at each September meeting of the alumnae chapter at which time any amendments deemed advisable shall be considered.
Section 2. These bylaws may be amended at any regular meeting of the chapter by two-thirds vote of the members in good standing present and voting, provided the proposed amendment has been submitted in writing at the previous meeting.
